The Kali Choice Awards............

Kali's a huge movie fan. She usually watches one of her favorite movies in the afternoon each day. She's learning a ton of things from them. One thing I've noticed of late is that she's repeating words on the movie or in some cases, she's even saying the words/lines even before the character says them. Her vocabulary is exploding right now as a result.

I thought I'd give a quick rundown on her current top 5 movies.......

1. Beauty and the Beast - It's been around for over a decade, but it's easily one of the best. Vivid artwork, great story, and songs that are all upbeat and easy to sing along with at home. I don't get tired of watching it and neither does Kali.

2. Enchanted - This is a more recent Disney movie that's not quite as well known, but it's a lot of fun. The story (which begins as a cartoon) is that a pauper girl is saved by a prince and they decide to get married the very next day. The stepmother of the prince, who is also a witch, doesn't want that to happen and dumps her down a well that leads directly to Times Square in New York City. The rest of the movie is live action and is a spoof of many of the Disney fairy tale movies. Great songs and characters.

3. The Little Mermaid (and associated sequels) - A few months ago, Ariel was easily her favorite movie/character. That's waned a bit, but she's still a big fan. Diverse characters and varied songs.

4. High School Musical - No, Kali has not seen the sequels, but she likes watching and dancing to the original. I think the song scenes really help her understand dancing quite a bit. She loves spinning around during the songs.

5. Madagascar 2 - This was Kali's first movie that she saw in a theater. It's coming out on DVD today and will definitely be entering the rotation on the DVD player. The animation is great and there's lots of scenes where the animals dance (which is a big plus in Kali's eyes). It's got a few good 'adult' jokes tossed in just to keep the parents interested.

Honorable mention goes to 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarves' and 'Sleeping Beauty'. She likes both of those movies, but they often get left out of the rotation.
