Another parenting lesson was taught to me the hard way last night. Mrs. Lime did her first night of regular work last night. She worked from 8:00 PM to 4:00 AM. So that left me in charge of the baby.
We've actually got Kali 0.2 to the point where she will take the bottle and drink both formula and breast milk from the bottle. That's a really nice advantage to have as we can interchange her between breast-fed and bottle-fed pretty easily. So I was armed with 6 oz. of breast milk and lots of formula for the night ahead.
I headed up and started to feed the baby and all went well. I fed her about 3 oz. of formula and she sucked it all down. Only one problem......she wasn't falling asleep like she usually does. It seemed pretty odd. She began to fuss a lot and wouldn't take the bottle. That usually means she either has to burp or has some gas on the back end. So I tried to burp and pat on her back. No luck. She started fussing even more and still wouldn't take the bottle.
Next move is to start trying some stuff to figure out what the issue is. I headed down and grabbed some breast milk out of the fridge. She continued to cry and wouldn't drink a drop of it. Hmmmmmm. Next step was to head over to Mrs. Lime and try some breast feeding. Kali latched right on and was asleep in a couple of minutes.
It's not the optimal situation, but we may have to do that for a bit. The good thing is that she'll eat out of the bottle until full, but in some cases may need the comfort of Mrs. Lime for a couple of minutes to put her to sleep. In the next couple of months, she'll reach the point where she sleeps for 6-8 hours or longer and then we won't have this issue.
